Steve Lacy (1934-2004) was one of the great saxophonists. Evan Parker has described him as the 'patron saint of the soprano saxophone'. After working with Thelonious Monk and Cecil Taylor, Lacy went on to develop a huge body of his own music (both as a composer and a player) through a life in and around the soprano saxophone. During the evening's discussion Parker recalls Lacy's one night on the sopranino saxophone at the Royal Northern, Wright considers the complex and intriguing ways Lacy named and dedicated his records, and the pair geek out on the specific reeds and techniques Lacy used and developed. They're later joined by very special (and surprise) guest Frederic Rzewski.
