Afrikan Sciences (Eric Douglas Porter) stands solidly as one of the most innovative producers to surface in recent times. Affectionately titled the Rhythm Czar, Porter has steadily become one of the most well respected creators in Electronic music. Having roots in 80's hip hop first as a dj eventually moving into production, Eric was ever searching for distinction in his sound. This search led him ever so closer to electronic production in the late 90s . Once described as the love child of Afrika Bambaataa and science-fiction writer Octavia Butler, the grandSun of Ra, Porter's production has always crafted a marriage between various forms of music and sci-fi with an emphasis on freedom in tempos and meter.
Ever the artist, Eric maintains a low profile staying true to his craftsmanship. Along with his releases on Deepblak, his music has found it’s way on to other labels such as UK based Bitasweet (Bugz In The Attic), Puerto Rico based Amalgama, German based Rubaiyat, and Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood imprint, and most recently PAN. As a student of the rhythmic arts, Eric is also an accomplished DJ/Live Performer having played insettings ranging from nu- soul, free jazz to experimental electronic orientations, appearing in venues like the BlueNote (NY), Jazz Cafe (London), Prince Charles (Berlin),Jazz House (Copenhagen), Nublu (Istanbul), and Boiler Room TV.
