Two day residency from restlessly creative West Coast artist Cameron Stallones – aka Sun Araw, performing with full band following on from the release of new double album ‘Gazebo Effect’.
Over an evolving canon of full-length albums, astrally-aligned collaborations and some arresting visual work, Stallones has evolved as a singular purveyor of hi-def psychedelia, tweaked-out dub and deep-focussed stumble-funk.
“The music Stallones makes as Sun Araw plays tricks with time and motion. His albums fantasise narratives of time travel, dreaming up encounters in ancient Rome or future sci-fi dystopia. But the way the internal dynamics of his music warps space-time set him apart from the retro-fixated US DIY retro underground he rose up with in the late 2000s. Also on the line-up is a screening of “LION CUBE SCAFFOLD: PRELIMINARY SUNFLOW” – a film by Sun Araw, documenting the Play Zone collaborative tour with Laraaji in 2014. A document of Grayfolded tune-ups and sound-checks in anticipation of PROFESSIONAL SUNFLOW, the forthcoming 2xLP of live recordings from the 2014 collaborative European tour of the Sun Araw Band with Laraaji.

”In recent times Stallones has played the stereo field with the gleaming refracted glory of last year’s BELOMANCIE LP, which followed ICON GIVE THANK, an incredible collaborative album between Cameron, M. Geddes Gengras and roots reggae vocal legends The Congos via the RVNG label as part of their FRKWYS series. 2014 also saw a serendipitous glide round Europe in tandem with ambient pioneer Laraaji entitled The Play Zone.
Now, the latest configuration of Sun Araw Band (aka S. Araw “Trio” XI) brings us GAZEBO EFFECT, a double album set out in June that informs the game-changing A/V live show set to tour Europe in Autumn . Over the course of several studio dates in Hollywood, California, “Trio” players Cameron Stallones, Alex Gray, and Mitchell Brown (with no prior intentions of doing any such thing) successfully planted a garden of “non-dimensional” objects, not only spontaneously generating these objects but also mastering their nurture and cultivation. “And You Can Too!”
GAZEBO EFFECT is a 2xLP nocturnal stroll into the depths of the garden, its upper lawns and outbuildings. The listener is advised that as these objects have been “set growing,” their location at any given time is difficult to predict. The Garden cannot be exited by the path it is entered, the angles involved being extremely precise. These factors (and others) clearly illustrate the value for oneself (and others) in the building of an observational structure: The Gazebo. However, it must be understood that the presence of this structure has a transformative effect on The Garden Itself.
In other words, the “Gazebo Effect” is a music production system that allows a performance to be obstructed & (thus) interpreted while it is being played.”
Orphy Robinson is an award-winning multi- Instrumentalist, One of the few UK musicians to have been signed to the legendary USA Jazz label “Blue Note”.
Robinson has performed on over 100 recordings with numerous internationally acclaimed artists across many genres of music.
These include artists as diverse as Lawrence Butch Morris, Hugh Masekela, Don Cherry, Robert Plant, Thurston Moore, Robert Wyatt, The Jazz Warriors, Cleveland Watkiss, Wadada Leo Smith, Lionel Loueke, Henry Grimes, William Parker, Hamid Drake, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Jean Luc Ponty, Marshall Allen, Sun Ra Arkestra to name a few.
Throughout his 40-year career, he has constantly been nominated or won numerous prestigious industry awards. These include 2022 Paul Hamlyn Award, 2 Jazz Fm awards 2017 Live Experience of the Year” & 2020 Gold Award. Nominated for the 2022 ‘Best Jazz Ensemble’ at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
2017 – 2019 Orphy held the position of Artist in residence at the Gibraltar World music Festival.

Orphy sits on various industry Boards Such as the Ivor’s Academy where he is both Deputy Chair and the Chair of the Jazz + Genre Committee.

Born in Tbilisi and now based in the Borcali region of Southern Georgia, Nargile Mehtiyeva aka Asiq Nargile has been playing saz (long-neck lute) and singing since the age of 15. Fluent in Azerbaijani, Georgian, and Russian, Nargile represents the cosmopolitan heritage of old Tbilisi, a city once known as a meeting point for multilingual aşıq bards who would travel through the region serving as conduits for news, ideas, music and culture. A powerful solo performer, her vocal recital of epic folk poetry is by turns ecstatic and deeply expressive, and is interspersed with bursts of virtuosic, highly ornamented saz. Equally comfortable performing moving laments or upbeat folk dances, Nargile is currently the only female aşıq living and performing in the ethnic Azeri region of Georgia, and has been teaching the art to new generations. Thanks to the efforts of The Sayat Nova Project, a non-profit group aiming to help preserve and promote the diverse musical dialects of the Caucasus, European audiences can now experience the elusive, hypnotic beauty of Nargile's music for themselves.
